And among the video pranks and challenges, he also ropes in special guests such as Game of Thrones’ actress Maisie Williams to chat to his over four million subscribers.
9 Tanya Burr
Fashion and beauty vlogger Tanya Burr started her YouTube channel in 2009. After years of make-up tutorials and fashion advice, she launched a cosmetics range in 2014.
8 Charlie McDonnell
The original British YouTube superstar, Charlie McDonnell launched his channel in 2007 and counts polymath Stephen Fry among his fans.
He set up the channel while still in school and went full-time after finishing his studies – he bought a house and now out-earns his parents.
7 Jackson Harries
What originally started as a plan to film a gap year abroad turned into a YouTube channel called JacksGap that Harries stars in with his twin brother, Finn.
A particular highlight sees the twins travel across India in a rickshaw.
6 Joe Sugg
The younger brother of Zoe, Joe Sugg is the tousle-haired British picture of a YouTube vlogger.
He posts under the name ThatcherJoe to over four million subscribers and often includes his sister in his videos.

Posting under the username danisnotonfire, Howell makes videos “about how awkward I am and people laugh at me”.
Being awkward hasn’t stopped him reaching over four-and-a-half million subscribers and landing a gig as a radio presenter on BBC Radio 1.

The first video gamer in our list, Garrett posts videos about the hugely popular online game Minecraft as a character called Stumpy Cat.

Zoe Sugg, or Zoella, is one of YouTube’s most famous youtube superstars. She shares make-up and fashion tips and insights into her life.
