While the entire world is proud of Caitlyn Jenner’s Vanity Fair cover issue and pouring in all their support and love for her. The former Nickelodeon actor decided to oppose the flow and tweet something insensitive.
Great PR move there Drake. I see how you roll.
the former Nickelodeon star, indicated he would refuse to acknowledge Jenner’s new identity.
“Sorry…still calling you Bruce,” he tweeted.
This set into motion all the usual stages of a Twitter meltdown.
There was an attempt at rationalization, in which Bell suggested it was a sign of respect.
“I’m not dissing him!” he wrote, using the pronoun that Jenner no longer uses. “I just don’t want to forget his legacy! He is the greatest athlete of all time! Chill out!”
There were insults directed at those offended.
“Calm down children” he wrote. An attempt to brush it off: “Good thing social media has no effect on real life,” he wrote. And finally, of course, the final stage: deletion.
I understand that this is probably more an issue of not fully grasping this aspect of the transgender community, but I hope Drake will learn from this situation rather than stand his ground.
Caitlyn is a woman and wants to be identified as such. One should fell free in expressing themselves the way they want to, without living under constant fear of how the society would react and of course the hate from the quick to judge people. Period.
Lets keep this negativity aside and talk about all the positive tweets pouring in from the entertainment world. Lady Gaga, Sam Smith among-est many other celebrities took over twitter and Instagram, to support and welcome Caitlyn Jenner whose Vanity Cover definitely broke the internet. Sorry Kim K,
