The Official Poster Has Arrived! #SMOSHTheMovie

Teen comedy “Smosh: The Movie,” starring the two dudes behind the popular YouTube channel of the same name, is slated to premiere July 23 and subsequently will be available widely across multiple distributors.

The movie, co-produced by Defy and AwesomenessTV, stars Anthony Padilla and Ian Hecox of YouTube’s Smosh channels — which collectively have some 30 million subscribers — in what’s billed as a modern-day version of “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure.” Indeed, “Smosh: The Movie” is directed by Alex Winter, who co-starred with Keanu Reeves in the 1989 time-travel romp.

The July 23 world premiere in Anaheim, Calif., is scheduled to coincide with digital-video conference VidCon. Following the premiere, “Smosh: The Movie” will be launched in a limited theatrical release as well as on digital and VOD platforms.

YouTube stars who appear in the movie include Jenna Marbles, Grace Helbig, Harley Morenstein, Mark Fischback (“Markplier”) and Dominic “D-Trix” Sandoval, as well as Jillian Nelson, Brittan Ross, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin and Michael Ian Black.

Lionsgate last fall acquired global distribution rights to “Smosh: The Movie”. The production was jointly financed by DreamWorks Animation’s AwesomenessTV and Defy Media, in which Lionsgate has an equity interest.

“‘Smosh: The Movie’ marks a major next step in serving the millions of Smosh fans and an opportunity to entertain millions more,” said Defy Media CEO Matt Diamond.

The picture was written by Eric Falconer (“Blue Mountain State,” “How I Met Your Mother”) and Steve Marmel. Film is exec produced by Padilla, Hecox, Defy’s Barry Blumberg, Brett Bouttier, Joe Davola and Shauna Phelan. AwesomenessTV founder Brian Robbins (“Varsity Blues,” “Expelled”) serves as Producer.

And yesterday, the official Instagram account for the most famous YouTube channel released the official poster to their movie titled SMOSH-The Movie
